Become a Member of the Franklin Park Volunteer Fire Company
We are currently recruiting for new members! We have a variety of ways to get involved, from active firefighting, to fundraising, to administrative and business support, and we're sure we can find an area that interests you.
- Fire Police – Assist with traffic control and related issues at the scene of incidents.
- Junior Member – 14 to 17 year olds who train to become firefighters alongside first responders.
- Firefighter – Members who have completed all necessary training for interior and exterior fire situation.
All members attend training of various types including structural firefighting, hazardous materials, vehicle rescue, first aid, and CPR. Most training is available through the Allegheny County Fire Academy or at our main station, and we work with members to accommodate each member's schedule, availability, and capabilities. All training costs are paid for by the Fire Company.

You may also stop by the Main Station at 2360 Rochester Road, Sewickley, PA 15143 on the 1st, 2nd, or 4th Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm to meet the members and learn more about the opportunities available.
Fire Police
Another important group within the Franklin Park Volunteer Fire Company are the Fire Police. The main duties of the Fire Police are to make emergency scenes safer for first responders – including firefighters, EMS personnel, full-time police officers, motorists, and the general public.
Their functions range from restricting traffic on a back road with a wire down to closing an entire interstate highway for a major multi-vehicle accident. They regularly help with controlling traffic and parking for community parades, festivals, and other events.
All Fire Police officers will receive approximately 32 hours of PA State Fire Academy training as well as ongoing in-house training and practice. Serving as a Fire Police officer provides a very useful and exciting service for your community.

Junior Member
Our Junior Firefighter program is where many of our members get their start. Juniors train alongside experienced first responders, learn the equipment and the job, and become part of the company well before they're old enough for interior firefighting.
New junior members are voted on and formally sworn in at one of our monthly membership meetings. What a junior member is permitted to do at an emergency scene is governed by Pennsylvania state law and company policy, and increases with age and completed training.
A parent or guardian's written consent is required.

Firefighter (Interior and Exterior)
Interior Firefighters are the members trained and equipped to go inside a burning building. When a call comes in for a structure fire, these are the members advancing a hose line down a hallway in zero visibility, searching bedrooms for anyone still inside, and opening up walls and ceilings to find fire before it spreads.
Before entering an active fire, members complete structural firefighting training covering fire behavior, forcible entry, search and rescue, ventilation, hose handling, and self-contained breathing apparatus. Training continues after certification with regular company drills, live fire exercises, and refreshers on hazardous materials, vehicle rescue, first aid, and CPR. Courses are available through the Allegheny County Fire Academy and at our main station. All training costs are paid for by the Fire Company.
